Ten Verses on Gauri

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, Who establishes and destroys these universes in a sportive play, Who is sought-after by the minds of Yogis who have dispassioned the world, and Who is resplendent like a flock of sun at the dawn.||1||

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, Who is perceived in the meditation and sleep of the dispassionated ones, Who resides within us as aatman inciting or urging us, Who is the highest limit of dispassion, Who is purely truth, knowledge and bliss, and Who appears in a thin-slender form (as Gaurii).||2||

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, Who has a crown-jewel like moonlight which appears pleasing over a face with a gentle smile, Who has a crown-jewel like moonlight which make the tresses dark-night blue in color, and Who has lotus-feet which is reverred by Indra, Upendra (Vaman Avatar), and others.||3||

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, Who is the first enduring One¹, Who is glittering in all the indestructible forms, Who gives birth to (or creates) the tree (Kadamba) of various elements inside everything (living or non-living), Who is associated with Veda (shabda-brahma), and Who is resplendent like a lightening.||4||

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, Who — having occupied the sun, the moon and the procreation vulva as the root-cause in various tracks — pervades in glorious and shiny manifestations, Who is tinier than the tiny that we can perceive (the formless), and Who is complete bliss.||5||

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, Who is witnessed by the eternal, pure, unanimated and one Lord of the universe in the restless creation, maintenance or destruction of the world and its dissolution, and Who is the consort of Shiv.||6||

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, in Whose womb lies this whole mundane egg-like universe, Who is responsible for the rise of the untrue (in an eternal sense) and the true, Who is with Shiv in the Ardhanarishvar (half masculine, half feminine) form, and Who continuously roams on His silver mountain (Kailash).||7||

I praise that Gauri, in Whom are the manifestations of moving, unmoving, and the rest objects interwoven and entangled — just like a thread runs through various flowers and jewels in a garland, Who is reached by the knowledge of self (atma-gyan), Who is my mother, and Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes.||8||

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, Who — having occupied the worlds at Her own wish in various forms and manifestations — plays according to Her own wish, Who is auspicious and known as Kalyani, Who is the giver of all the wishes, and Who is reverred [by us] with heads bent down.||9||

I praise Gauri, my Mother, Who has lotus-like beautiful eyes, Who destroys the shackles created by the incessant human hopes, on Whom humans — who are meditating on the lotus-feet — fix their mind, Who is the Goddess, Who has captured the half-body of Shiv, and Who is pleasing.||10||

Gauri, the daughter of Himalaya, gifts, having set forth, the devotion of Shiv and the vaak-siddhi² to those who are selfless and speak or murmur this Gauri-Dashakam eulogy every morning, with devotion and by respectful conduct.||11||
