Nine Sacred-Flames, continuously burning without any fuel, or assistance, may be seen erupting from a rock-side. Now housed in the shape of nature is worshipped as a goddess ,know as JWALAMUKHI. According to legends it is Believed that the tongue of 'Sati' fell at this place, when Lord-Vishnu threw his 'Charkra' to cut the body of Sati into Pieces, in order to remove the attachment, Lord Shankar was displaying with her dead body. It is a place of DHUMRA DEVI. It is recognised as the highest seat of power among 52' SHAKTI-PITHS'. In this abode of God, Devi is seen in the from of a bright flames(jyoti). The bright flames come out of rock creeks at 9 different places without any fuel or ignition. Here Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru asked the Indian Geological Scientists to try and find oil/gas, owing the origin of flame to some unknown gas link. Last forty year have been wasted in the pursuit and the operation abandoned. Due to the existence of holy goddess in the from of bright flame, she is know as 'Jawalaji' and the place is popularly know as 'Jawala-Mukhi'.

 

Way to Holy Jawala-Mukhi :-

By Road :- This place is situated in the district 'Kangra' of Himachal Pradesh. Buses are available easily from district 'Hoshairpur' Punjab. The buses going to Jawalaji touch 'Gopipura dera'. Jawalaji is about 20km from 'Dera Gopipur'. You can also catch a bus from Pathankot to Jawalaji and this go via Kangra. Kangra to JWALAMUKHI is about 2 hours bus journey. Buses are available half hourly.
By Train :- The nearest railway station on the main line is Pathankot which is about 80km from Jawalaji. NarowGauge train is available from Pathankot to Kangra.It is quite enjoyable journey.
By Air:- You can visit here by Aeroplane .(Kangra Airport at Gagal.)
